IBM Model D

Mechanical Braille Writers

Description:
In 1968, the IBM Braille (Model D) Typewriter became the first electric braille writing machine available for home use. Its keyboard was almost identical to that of a standard typewriter. Uncontracted braille was typed in lower case. Both lower and upper case characters were used for contracted braille, the contractions occupying the upper case positions.
