History/Provenance: The Dollywood Foundation, started by singer Dolly Parton, provides free books to preschool children in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) program. In 2011, the American Printing House for the Blind and the Dollywood Foundation, announced a partnership that will expand the program to include accessible books for blind and visually impaired children. Beginning in 2012, selected DPIL books will be produced in print/braille by APH and provided free-of-charge to eligible families. The books will also be available to others from APH, as an individual purchase or through the Federal Quota. This copy of Parton's "I Am a Rainbow" was one of two presentation copies of the book, along with two presentation copies of "The Little Engine That Could," presented to Parton by APH Vice President of Public Affairs Gary Mudd during the public announcement at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Books produced for the program will be very similar to the presentation books; the text will be translated into braille that is embossed onto clear acetate sheets and applied to the corresponding print pages.
