2002.5.3
Scope & Content:
A standard, color-print map of Ireland is affixed to a cardboard backing and embossed to indicate rivers and mountains. Landmasses are raised above water areas, with mountains slightly elevated. Insets of Belfast and Dublin are not raised. Degrees of longitude and latitude are provided along the perimeter in braille. Includes an embossed scale of miles at the bottom right corner. The title "Ireland" is embossed in braille at top left. A single braille letter marks certain points on the map. "Copyright K.338" is printed at the bottom left corner. "G.W. Bacon & Co., Ltd., Norwich St. London, E.C.4." is printed at the bottom right corner. "Made in Britain," the letters "BI" and a logo with a unicorn and the word "Dixotype" are stamped in black ink on the back, top right. The map was produced by the National Institute for the Blind, London. It is one of a set of two raised-relief maps of Ireland, the other indicates rivers and towns (see 2002.5.4).
