Administrative History: The Calcutta Blind School was founded by Rev. Lal Bihari Shah, who opened the school in 1897 and initially conducted classes in his Calcutta, India home. It later became a public charitable school and, in 1911, under the administration of a board of governors. In 1925, the school moved into the completed main-portion of a newly-constructed school building located in Behala, a suburb of Calcutta. (source: 1950 Annual Report)
