Description: Black-and-white glossy; left to right: Coleman Burke, vice president of the American Bible Society (ABS), presents an award plaque to Winthrop H. Battles, honorary president of the John Milton Society for the Blind (JMS), at the 159th Annual Meeting of ABS in New York City. Plaque features a vinyl phonograph record at top and an engraved plate at bottom that reads: The American Bible Society presents the Talking Bible Record, Symbolic of Its 149th Anniversary of Work for the Blind, to the John Milton Society, in Recognition of a Century of Service in Providing the Bible and Religious Literature to the Blind, May 8, 1975, New York City." JMS was founded in 1928 and continued the service of the Society for Providing Evangelical Religious Literature (SPERL), which was founded in 1874 and merged with JMS in 1960. Battles' grandfather, William Wait, was the founder of SPERL. Stamped in black ink on reverse: "12-184" and "American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, New York 10023."
