Administrative History: The Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind at Hampton was established in 1906 by an act of the Virginia General Assembly and officially opened in 1909 as the Virginia State School for Colored Deaf and Blind Children.The school's first white students were enrolled in the early 1970s. The name of the school was changed in 1980 to Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind at Hampton. Circa 2000, the name changed to Virginia School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Disabled at Hampton. The school closed in 2008 when it was consolidated with the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind located in Staunton.
