Typescript

Accession Number: 2010.36.1-3

Scope & Content: The typewritten "Peripatology Manual" was compiled by Lois Matthews (Lois Matthews Umphrey) while she was a student in the 1968-69 class of the Boston College Peripatology Program. Each student in the program created a manual, which served as the course "textbook." The manual describes Orientation and Mobility (O&M) techniques and procedures, and includes notes and instructor outlines and handouts. It is dated January 1969 and is organized in 5 units: Unit 1, Techniques Basic to Orientation and Mobility; Unit 2, Cane Techniques; Unit 3, Residential Orientation and Mobility; Unit 4, Business Orientation and Mobility; Unit 5, Transportation; Unit 6, Rural Orientation and Mobility. The table of contents indicates that there were a total of 232 pages and a supplementary folder of "Visits." Pages 219-232 and the folder were not received with this typescript. The peripatology certificate is a photocopy of the original awarded to Lois Matthews Whitcomb by the Boston College Graduate School Education Department in August 1969, upon completion of the Peripatology Program. Typescript and certificate were in a Boston College 3-ring binder; burgundy clothbound boards with gilt-stamped lettering and college logo on front cover. .1 - typescript .2 - photocopy of certificate .3 - binder
