Recording, Video

Accession Number: 2019.16.16

Summary/Description: [Liner Notes]: It can be difficult to understand low vision conditions and to determine how they affect a young child's visual functioning. However, with some special adaptations in the home and preschool environments, children with low vision will be able to use their vision to best advantage and function to the best of their abilities. This video discusses several common causes of low vision, how they affect visual functioning, and adaptations that can be incorporated simply into home and classroom to meet the special needs of children who have low vision. It is estimated that as much as 80% of early learning occurs through the use of sight. Therefore, a little guidance is needed when working with young children who are blind or visually impaired. The Can Do! Video Library was developed to show parents and professionals some practical and sound ways to assist the young child who is blind or visually impaired to develop needed skills and take off on the road to independence.
