History/Provenance: The Dollywood Foundation, started by singer Dolly Parton, provides free books to preschool children in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom through its Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) program. On June 17, 2011 the American Printing House for the Blind and the Dollywood Foundation announced a partnership to make accessible books available to blind and visually impaired children through DPIL. Beginning in 2012, APH will produce selected DPIL books in print/braille that eligible families can obtain free-of-charge through the DPIL program. The books will also be available to others from APH, as an individual purchase or through the Federal Quota. This book was one of two presentation copies of "The Little Engine That Could," a favorite children's book of Parton's, presented to her by APH Vice President of Public Affairs Gary Mudd during the public announcement made at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He also presented her with two copies of her book "I Am a Rainbow," to which braille text had been added. Books produced for the program will be very similar to the presentation books; the text will be translated into braille that is embossed onto clear acetate sheets and applied to the corresponding print pages.
