A frontispiece photo of the school building is in the 1892 report; black-and-white photos of a dormitory and new main building are in the 1897 report. Administrative History: In 1887, the state of Texas opened a separate school in Austin for the education of African-American students who were deaf or blind. The Institute for Deaf, Dumb and Blind Colored Youths would undergo several name changes, finally becoming the Texas Blind and Deaf School in 1965. That same year blind students of the school were integrated into the Texas School for the Blind.
