Administrative History: The Society for the Relief of the Destitute Blind, a charitable non-sectarian institution, was founded by Reverend Eastburn Benjamin who, in 1868, opened a home for destitute blind adults in New York City. The Society was incorporated in 1869, and would later offer recreational activities and braille instruction to the residents of its home.
