Description: Photographic reproduction on simulated parchment of the patent specification for "Slate for the Blind," letters patent no. 471,653, March 29, 1892. Includes a drawing with a cross-sectional view of the device that was invented by Elizabeth Sthreshley, Austin, TX. The slate consists of a case with a grid pattern of inset sections in which the blocks can be stored. The user writes by removing letter blocks from the drawer and placing them into the top of the slate. Accession includes 2 reproduced copies.
