Administrative History: The Sacramento Society for the Blind, a non-profit corporation, was incorporated in 1954 as the Sacramento Valley Center for the Blind, and opened in Sacramento, California in 1956 to provide a meeting place for blind adults of Sacramento County. By the early 1960s, the name had changed from "Center" to "Society," and the organization's purpose broadened to provide instructional programs and services to blind and visually impaired persons of all ages.
