Description: Relief picture produced by Martin Kunz for instruction of blind students; may be a part of his Naturkunde [Natural History] series. "Pictures for the Blind" is printed at the top in German, French, English, and Italian as follows: Abbildungen fur Blinde. Images a l'usage des aveugles. Pictures for the Blind. Immagini ad uso dei ciechi. Below this is printed "von Direktor M. Kunz, Illzach." Creator's name and location are embossed in German braille, at bottom. Picture shows two marine fish, a shark (upper figure) and a sawfish (lower figure). Braille labeling beneath each figure provides the common name in German and French. Relief is somewhat worn. Museum has several of Kunz' relief pictures and maps in its collection. Martin Kunz was director of the Blind Institute at Illzach, Germany and a leading producer of relief pictures and maps in the 1890s. --Tactile Pictures (Eriksson, 1998, p. 107).
