Description: Relief picture produced by Martin Kunz for instruction of blind students; may be a part of his Naturkunde [Natural History] series. "Pictures for the Blind" is printed at the top in German, French, English, and Italian as follows: Abbildungen fur Blinde. Images a l'usage des aveugles. Pictures for the Blind. Immagini ad uso dei ciechi. Below this is printed "von Direktor M. Kunz, Illzach." Creator's name and location are embossed in German braille, at bottom. The capercaillie is on the left; the domestic cock (rooster) is on the right. Braille labeling beneath each bird provides the common name in German; print labeling provides the common name in German and the species in Latin. Domestic cock is partially painted brown; capercaillie has minimal paint and may have had more on it, originally; entire frontside of picture is varnished; backsides of the birds are covered with brown flocking; one crack along edge of rooster.
