Description: Prototype QWERTY keyboard braille typewriter built on the frame of a Remington Standard 10; the black enameled four-columned cast iron open frame retains its original gold decals on the front of the frame and above the keyboard; QWERTY keyboard is original although the key arms have been lengthened to connect them with an additional bright steel boxy bar arrangement bolted to the rear of the machine; plain bright steel table screwed to top of original frame columns; prototype carriage, composed of machined steel parts, and rubber and nickel plated parts scavenged from other contemporary typewriters; braille diebox is behind and beneath platen roller, upward writing; paper release lever on right side of carriage.
