Includes illustrations of braille and braille writing devices; includes appendices, an index, and a chapter on the Nemeth code for mathematics; music notation is introduced in an appendix; fourth printing, June 1969. Samuel C. Ashcroft, educator and researcher, was the founder and first director of the Educational Research Department of APH. In 2002, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Leaders and Legends of the Blindness Field.
