Description: Enlarged photograph of an engraving of the exterior front entrance and east side of the APH original building, a brick and stone structure of Italianate-style with a three-story front entrance, two-story ell, basement and, on the east side, a fire proof vault for storage of stereotype plates. Two people are approaching the steps of the front entrance; a third person is at the top of the steps; trees, in leaf are in the background, on both sides of the building. Engraving appears as the frontispiece in the company's 1883 annual report. Negative on file.

History/Provenance: Ground breaking for the original APH building took place on July 14, 1882. The building, designed by architect Charles J. Clarke, was completed in 1883, at a total cost of $19,116.88. It was built on a 6.8 acre lot, adjacent to and on the west side of the Kentucky School for the Blind, that had been purchased in 1882 for $9,520. Photograph was probably made for APH Museum use.
