Summary/Description: A tactual learning readiness program designed for use with children before they begin a basic braille reading program. Based on material developed by Ina W. Kurzhals for the "Tactual Road to Reading" program, which was superseded by the Patterns Prebraille Program. Kit includes 5 raised-line form books for students, and 2 teacher's books in standard print: a) First Circle Book b) Second Circle Book c) First Line Book d) Second Line Book e) Shape Book f) Teacher's Manual (containing 80 lessons) g) Instructions for Making Tactual Readiness Books (patterns and instructions by Kendrick S. Coy) Form books and the instructions book are copyright 1988; teacher's manual is copyright 1987. All have orange paper covers. Form books are saddle-stitched along the fold; teacher's books are comb-bound (white plastic). APH kit catalog number: 6-78360. Kit materials could also be purchased separately.

History/Provenance: The Patterns Prebraille Program was introduced as a new product of the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) in 1988, superseding another APH product: Tactual Road to Reading. It was discontinued in 2018. This kit was transferred in 2019 to the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) from the APH Research Department, where it had been stored with project materials of Eleanor Pester.
