Administrative History: In 1872, the Ontario Institution for the Education of the Blind was established by the Ontario provincial legislature. It opened in Brantford, Ontario, Canada in May of that year. The name of the school was changed in 1913 to Ontario School for the Blind. In 1974, the school was renamed the W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind, in honor of a former lieutenant-governor of Ontario.
