History/Provenance: Current Events was a weekly news magazine for high school students, founded in 1902 by the American Education Press in Columbus, OH. AEP would go on to create the Weekly Reader series of children's newspapers in 1928. APH began publishing braille editions of My Weekly Reader in 1934 and Current Events in 1936. After passing through several different owners and eventually falling into financial difficulty, Weekly Reader was purchased by its main competitor, Scholastic, in 2012 and its publications were discontinued.
