First model of the electronic Mountbatten braille writer; gray plastic exterior and a yellow keypad with blue and black ergonomically designed keys; electric or battery power supply; 480k user RAM; includes voice synthesizer; ports for connecting with PC/notetaker, PC keyboard, text printer, and headphones; braille and print labeling on bottom; on/off switch at front left; retracting yellow handle at front center; "Mountbatten Brailler" in raised print and braille on keypad; serial no. MB609036; weighs about 10 pounds; model is no longer produced. "Funded by Mountbatten Memorial Trust and Commonwealth Dept. of Industry, Technology and Commerce of the Australian Government. Developed by E.M. Bate, RNCB Hereford." --printed label on bottom of braille writer.
