Administrative History: In 1997, Mitzi Friedlander, a Talking Book narrator at the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), was honored as the first person in the history of the Talking Book program to record 1000 books for the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), a division of the Library of Congress. "Beyond the Double Night," a biography by Ken Thompson of James Morrison Heady, a deaf-blind Kentuckian who was a writer, inventor, and poet, was Friedlander's 1000th book. The videorecordings of the events were made by APH for in-house use.
