Administrative History: The Mississippi State Commission for the Blind was established by the state legislature of Mississippi in 1928 to keep a census of blind people in the state and provide information and services to that population, including vocational rehabilitation and employment placement. The Commission was abolished in 1938 and its "duties and responsibilities" transferred to the Division for the Blind, in the state's Department of Public Welfare.
