Summary/Description: Volume One of the Perkins Institution for the Blind 1855 raised letter edition of Milton's works, this volume containing the first nine books only of "Paradise Lost"; embossed in Boston Line Letter on one side of the page; stacked paper spacers between pages; case binding; cover features a brown, blue, and pink marbled paper cover stock, dark brown leather corner tabs and spine wrapping, green endpapers; outlines of individual types are occasionally visible throughout in the embossing.

History/Provenance: According to the vendor, this book was one of hundreds sold at auction on September 18, 2002 from the home of Bertha Chapman in Groveton, New Hampshire. The Chapman Family had lived in the home in Groveton since 1880. The collection included three books in tactile print, and the auctioneer, Archie Steenburgh, told the seller that there was a blind person in the Chapman Family but nothing else was known.
