Administrative History: The Michigan School for the Blind (MSB) was established in 1879 and opened in 1880 in Lansing. Prior to 1879, blind students attended the Michigan Asylum for the Deaf Mutes and the Blind, later called the Michigan Institution for Educating the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind, which opened in Flint in 1854. MSB began focusing on outreach services only in 1993 and relocated to Flint in 1995, when it rejoined the Michigan School for the Deaf campus.
