Description: Lithograph of a circa 1870 head-and-shoulders portrait photo of Howe. A facsimile of his signature appears in the bottom margin. Howe was the leading U.S. pioneer in the education of blind children. In 1832, he became the first director of the Perkins School for the Blind (MA), a position which he held until his death in 1876.
