An unnumbered page at front of issue contains a notice, written by Otis Patten, Superintendent of the Arkansas Institute for the Blind, of an "Employment of the Blind" essay contest sponsored by the American Association of Instructors of the Blind (AAIB). On the back cover is a list of Kneass' publications. Napoleon B. Kneass, Jr., of Philadelphia, devised his raised letter system for tactile reading in 1867. He combined the capital letters of Philadelphia Line type with lower case letters like those of Boston Line type. His magazine was probably the first to be published in the U.S. for blind readers.
