Scope & Content: Jane Thompson joined the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) in January 2000 as director of ATIC (Accessible Textbook Initiative and Collaboration), a federally-funded inititative that would become an APH department later known as Accessible Textbooks. She talks about the department's development of an on-demand process, which increased the timeliness and availability of textbooks in braille, large print, digital braille, and digital large print, and mentions the department's participation in other APH projects, such as the REAL (Resources with Enhanced Accessibility for Learning] Plan. Other topics include the increased need for UEB (Uniform English Braille) transcribers; her involvement with the Prison Braille Program; APH Annual Meeting responsibilites (awards events and hospitality); and the upcoming (October 2015) merger of the Accessible Tests Department with her department to create the Accessible Textbooks and Tests Department.
