Administrative History: The Iowa Commission for the Blind was established by the state legislature of Iowa in 1925 to provide vocational rehabilitation and employment services to blind and visually impaired residents of Iowa. By 1988, library services and independent living programs were also offered, and the Commission became known as the Iowa Department for the Blind, with "Commission for the Blind" used to designate the three-member policy-making body for the Department.
