Administrative History: International Guiding Eyes (IGE), Inc. was founded in 1948 by Joseph Jones, who was visually impaired. Established with the help of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (of which Jones was a member), IGE began training dog guides in a home located in North Hollywood, California, and provided them free-of-charge to persons who were blind or visually impaired. In 1982, IGE moved to a new campus located in Sylmar, California. Ten years later, the organization became known as Guide Dogs of America.
