Administrative History: After two weeks of working without a contract, Teamster's Local 89 went on strike at APH on Tuesday, November 29, 2005. The primary reasons announced by the union were a failure to agree over health insurance and wage increases. It was the second strike at the plant since the production workers unionized in 1981. The first strike occurred in 1987 and lasted three weeks. The 2005 strike lasted into January and involved nearly 40% of the plant's workforce. The weather was cold and wet during most of December and January, forcing the pickets to walk in poor weather. The final settlement was very similar to the company's last offer in November. A number of union members crossed the line before the strike was officially ended.
