Administrative History: The Illinois Institution for the Education of the Blind was established in 1849 in Jacksonville. In 1905, the name was changed to Illinois School for the Blind. It was renamed Illinois Braille and Sight Saving School in 1954. During the 1976/77 school year, the name Illinois School for the Visually Impaired was adopted.
