Administrative History: The Illinois Department of Visitation and Instruction of the Adult Blind, established in October 1911, provided in-home tactile reading and writing instruction and also handicraft and vocational training to adult residents of the state. The state agency was abolished in 1917 and its work continued by the Division of Visitation of Adult Blind, under the Illinois Department of Public Welfare.
