Description: Hugh Sutton was a local actor and businessman who became a pioneering announcer at WHAS radio. Sutton was one of two WHAS announcers who performed the first radio broadcast from Mammoth Cave on July 8, 1935. By his retirement in 1955, he was the news director at WAVE-TV. Sutton was APH’s first reader, the narrator of the first book produced in their converted studio, Gulliver’s Travels, in 1936.
