An engraving of Don Carlos, as the frontispiece, and of Don Fernando Alvarez de Toledo, and an illustration of Malta are in v. 2. On spine: Prescott's Philip the Second. The author, a noted historian, was visually impaired. Brown clothbound boards with decorative blind-stamped design on covers and spine; gilt lettering and design on spine; publisher's name blind-stamped on front cover. Museum holdings: v. 1, v. 2.
