Description: Earthenware plate with brown glaze has the name of Helen Keller in raised letters at top center; beneath this, framed in a circle, is a raised left-facing profile of Keller; raised illustration of a water pump is shown at left, and of a graduation cap and a rolled diploma at right; raised illustrations of a stylus and pocket slate are at bottom center; "Helen Keller Centennial 1880-1980" appears in braille, centered beneath her profile; "1880-Centennial-1980" appears in raised numbers and letters along the bottom edge. On the reverse, in raised letters around the circumference of the plate, is a quote from Helen Keller: "Life is an exciting business and most exciting when it is lived for others." An inscription about the commissioning of the plate appears at center, with the maker identified at the bottom. Plate has sculpted rests with notches on the bottom and two holes for hanging.
