Administrative History: The Hadley School for the Blind was founded and opened in 1920 by William A. Hadley, who was blind, and Dr. E.V.L. Brown, an ophthalmologist, in Winnetka, Illinois, to offer distance (at-home) learning programs ranging in courses from braille to adult continuing education and independent living for blind and visually impaired persons 14 years of age and older.
