A hand written dedication in the file says, "To Mrs. Gussie Rice Waddill from her old friend and neighbor Mrs. Susan Maltby whose fingers have many times pressed every character of this book, that she might read the blessed comforting words of her Master, who 'opened the eyes of the blind'." Waddill gave the book back to Susan Maltby's granddaughter, Nellie Maltby Roberts in October 1928, and the book descended through the family thereafter.
