Administrative History: The Iowa Industrial Home for the Blind was established in 1890 by the Iowa State Legislature to provide a working home for adult blind residents of the state. It opened in Knoxville, Iowa, in 1892, and was in existence for ten years. Products made in the Home's factory included brooms, whisks, hammocks, and nets. The home was under the management of the Iowa Board of Control of State Institutions.
