Scope & Content: Holdings: 1885, 1900/1902-1904/1906, 1918/1920-1944/1946, 1948/1950-1952/1954, 1956/1958-1964/1966. Printed reports document the school's management, building, and student activities. Reports include financial receipts and disbursements, and black-and-white photo illustrations. Student rosters are included up through the biennial period ending June 1964; report for 1964-1966 lists the names of graduating students only. Administrative History: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind was established by the state legislature of Florida in 1883 and opened in 1885 in St. Augustine. Originally called the Institute for the Blind, Deaf and Dumb, it was renamed School for Blind, Deaf and Dumb in 1903. In 1905, the original name was restored and, in 1967, the school became known as the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.
