Administrative History: The Florida Division of Blind Services provides programs and social services to blind and visually impaired persons of all ages residing in the state. It began as the Florida Council for the Blind, which was established in 1941 by the state legislature. The agency offers a Business Enterprises Program, as well as independent living, vocational rehabilitation, and employer information services. It also oversees the state's Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Library Services and a Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
