Summary/Description: Bound in reddish-brown flexible paper boards, reinforced along left edge with cloth tape. Decorative boarder of raised dots on title page. Includes six unnumbered pages showing the alphabet, numbers, and symbols in various embossed systems: line letter, braille, New York point. Single-sided embossing. Blue paper label on spine is embossed "Primer." Handwritten in pencil on title page: "attended school 1836-1854." For study of vocabulary and beginning reading.
History/Provenance: The title "An Eclectic Primer" first appears in the List of Embossed Books in the 1882 annual report of the Perkins School for the Blind. According to the donor, this book was originally owned and used by the grandmother (name not known) of Lucy Morehouse of Buffalo, NY, in whose memory it was donated.
