Administrative History: A reorganization of government agencies took place when Hawaii attained statehood in 1959. Services to blind and visually impaired residents, previously provided through the Bureau of Sight Conservation and Work with the Blind, were merged into the newly-formed Department of Social Services and, during fiscal year 1959-1960, continued as the Division of Sight Conservation and Work with the Blind.
