Administrative History: From collection of Dr. Gideon Jones, a founder of the Vision Program at Florida State University. See 2013.36.16 "Labor of Love" for a complete biography of Dr. Jones. The Instituut Voor Doven (Institute for the Deaf) was a Dutch healthcare facility and educational institution for the deaf, hearing impaired, and deafblind, founded in 1840 by the priest Martinus van Beek and the Sisters of the Choorstraat. It merged in 1998 with the Nijmegen Mgr. Terwindt Foundation under the name Viataal, a company that has its headquarters on the site of the former Institute. In 2009 it merged with KEGG and Saint Marie to Kentalis.
