Administrative History: The Oregon Commission for the Blind and Prevention of Blindness was established in 1937 by the Oregon Legislative Assembly to promote the welfare of blind and visually impaired persons of the state. For many years, services were primarily provided through the Oregon Blind Trade School, later to become the Oregon Service Center. During the biennial period of 1950/1952, the Commission organized its Department of Services for the Blind, within which were divisions responsible for administrative services, rehabilitative services, and commercial enterprises.
