Administrative History: The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind is located in Colorado Springs. It was founded in 1874 as the Colorado Institute for the Education of Mutes. Blind students were first admitted in 1877, and the name changed to the Colorado Institute for Mute and Blind. A separate Blind Department was established in 1883.
