Administrative History: The Cincinnati Library Society for the Blind was established in 1901 as a private organization to provide reading material to blind persons. It was the fourth library of its kind in the nation and, in 1931, became one of the original eighteen libraries for the blind in a new regional lending program administered by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a division of the Library of Congress. The Cincinnati library became known in 1953 as the Cincinnati Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
