Description: Sepia-toned photo is mounted on an ivory-colored card with gilt trim. Photo shows a man, who is blind and has an amputated right arm, sitting on a fringe-trimmed chair, holding a cane in his left hand. He is dressed in a suit with dark trousers, a patterned vest, and a long dark jacket. He is wearing a small-brimmed straw hat with a wide ribbon band. He has a full, trimmed beard and no mustache. A large dog is lying on the floor to the man's left. Photographer's mark is printed on the reverse, but is covered by paper residue and not legible. Small tears at the top right of the photo; small portion of paper missing from photo at bottom right, along dog's leg; reverse has paper residue. Cartes de visite were popular during the Civil War era.
