Description: Burt Blackwell was a native of Louisville and a graduate of the University of Louisville. Entering radio in 1932 as an announcer for WLAP in Louisville, he wrote, directed and acted in numerous radio plays. In 1933 he became chief announcer for WAVE radio and was the co-host of the station’s popular Man On The Street with fellow APH narrator George Patterson. With the coming of television in 1948 he became television director at WAVE-TV, directing and producing programs varying from sports to farm shows. A veteran traveler, Burt visited Europe, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean, and most of the United States. He read his first book for APH in 1939 and the last of almost 400 titles in 1980.
